Gabriela Flores - Head Designer
Each piece of wood is passionately transformed into one-of-a-kind, beautifully handcrafted art and decorations by our team of Bolivian Master Artisans, heirs to the country’s legacy of XVIII century woodworking craft.
Kirah is an international design firm specializing in decoration and art pieces lovingly crafted by talented artisans from reclaimed, recycled and sustainably-produced materials.
In 2007, our founder Gabriela Flores, a native from Bolivia, made it her mission to create an enterprise that offered local artisans an opportunity to showcase their talent while making a living as part of a real and dynamic business. Her efforts earned her the 2012 Cartier Women’s Initiative Award (CWIA), spearheading the company’s international expansion.
Kirah's products are sold to a wide array of local and international clients, including architects, art collectors and interior design firms in Sao Paulo, New York and Copenhagen to the Smithsonian Museums in Washington, D.C.
The creation of each Kirah Design piece begins with procuring discarded trunks and branches of Bolivia’s “treasure rosewood” -Machaerium scleroxylon- from managed-forestry operations rather than using poached wood. Located in eastern Bolivia, a region bordering the Amazon basin, lumber concessions are jealously monitored by the country’s world-renowned forestry laws. We also salvage exotic urban trees felled by natural causes or to give way to construction.
The salvaged woods are transported to our Master Workshop in Santa Cruz, where they are carefully sorted, air-dried and stored.
Our approach to design is collaborative: under the direction of our Head Designer, Gabriela Flores, we start by carefully identifying the potential of each piece of wood with our team of Master Artisans. We then partner with international and Bolivian designers to bring exquisite pieces to life to be appreciated worldwide.
